Some might call the 650S a McLaren 12C with a facelift, but that would sell the performance of McLaren’s latest far too short. With the 650S, McLaren delivers a car that is even more refined than the 12C. The 650S is lighter, faster, and more nimble than the 12C and also draws cues from the now-legendary P1. In the supercar horsepower battle the 650S stands its ground with horsepower worthy of its namesake (641 to be exact). True to McLaren form, acceleration is at the forefront, with 60 mph achieved in less than three seconds and more than 120 mph in a little over eight seconds. With features like brake-steering, an F1-influenced drag reduction system, and a body that increases downforce by 40 percent at speeds of 150 mph and above, the 650S is at the top of its game.[1]

The McLaren 650S Coupé (McLaren 650S) is a mid-engined supercar by McLaren, which produced the car between 2014 and 2016. The 650S Coupé was introduced into the Forza series via the NAPA Chassis Car Pack for Forza Horizon 2, released on December 2, 2014.[1]

Part of the McLaren Super Series model range, the 650S Coupé and its open-top Spider variant replace the McLaren 12C, on which it is also based.[2] In 2017, the 720S was introduced to succeed the 650S.

Overview[edit | edit source]

The 650S is based on the 12C it replaces, but with 25% of its parts being new.[2]

The 650S's naming nomenclature consists of the car's power output (in metric horsepower, or PS) followed by a letter (in this case, "S" for "Sport"). This naming nomenclature has since been used for all succeeding McLaren Super Series and McLaren Sports Series models.

Design[edit | edit source]

Taking the 12C's carbon fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP) chassis, the 650S sports some visual differences, including headlights sourced from the McLaren P1 hypercar and a rear end combining those of the McLaren 12C GT3 race cars and the 12C. However, compared to the 12C, the 650S is more rear-biased, with a 42% / 58% weight distribution, although the difference is not dramatic.

Specifications[edit | edit source]

The 650S retains the same 3.8 L twin-turbocharged M838T V8 as the 12C, but upgraded to produce 650 PS (641 hp; 478 kW) at 7,250 rpm and 678 N·m (500 ft·lb) of torque at 6,000 rpm.[3]

Power is also sent to the rear wheels via a seven-speed SSG dual-clutch automatic transmission. Its gear ratios remain unchanged from the 12C.

Like with its siblings, the 650S features large air intakes behind the doors and rides on 19-inch front wheels and 20-inch rear wheels, all of which are housed in Pirelli P Zero Corsa tires.[4] The 650S Coupé has a curb weight of 3,148 lb (1,428 kg).[5]

Performance[edit | edit source]

The 650S is capable of 0 - 60 mph (0 - 97 km/h) in 2.9 seconds, 0 - 100 mph (0 - 161 km/h) in 5.8 seconds, and a maximum top speed of 333 km/h (207 mph).[3] It has 40% more downforce than the 12C.[1]

Variants[edit | edit source]

McLaren 650S Spider (2014)[edit | edit source]

Main article: McLaren 650S Spider

The 650S Spider is an open-top spider variant of the 650S Coupé.

Gameplay[edit | edit source]

  • The McLaren 650S's main competitors are the Lamborghini Huracán LP 610-4, Chevrolet Corvette Z06 (C7), and Ferrari 458 Italia.
  • The 650S is superior over the 12C and F1 in a drag race (assuming all of the cars are stock). However, given the 650S's less aerodynamic profile compared to the F1, a heavily upgraded F1 will beat a heavily upgraded 650S in a drag race.
  • The 650S is usually not recommended for competitive racing or Rivals leaderboards as it lacks the handling and power to be competitive in Classes S1 and S2 (Forza Horizon) or Classes S and R (Forza Motorsport).

Conversions[edit | edit source]

Customization[edit | edit source]

As of Forza Horizon 4, the 650S Coupé comes with a Liberty Walk widebody kit.
