The 2012 Lamborghini Aventador LP 700-4 (Aventador '12, LP 700-4[1][2]) is a mid-engined supercar produced by Lamborghini from 2012 to 2017.

The Aventador LP 700-4 was introduced in 2011 as the successor to the Lamborghini Murciélago.

Overview[edit | edit source]

In keeping with Lamborghini tradition, the Lamborghini Aventador is named after a fighting bull. Aventador (pronounced: [aβentaˈðoɾ]) was a bull that fought particularly valiantly in the bullring of Zaragoza, Spain in 1993. The bull which the Aventador is named after earned the Trofeo de la Peña La Madroñera for its courage in the arena.

Design / chassis[edit | edit source]

The Lamborghini Aventador's shape is strongly inspired by the Murciélago-based Reventón and Estoque concept car while still having a similar wedge shape to the Murciélago it replaced. The rear air intake slats are now in a different shape, and the headlights are a shorter version of those of the Estoque. Unlike previous V12-engined Lamborghini models, the Aventador's scissor doors open slightly outwards.

Lamborghini claims that the Aventador LP 700-4 has dry weight of 3,472 lb (1,575 kg), although it is much heavier, at 4,085 lb (1,853 kg) in curb weight terms (US-spec models).[3]

Engine / drivetrain[edit | edit source]

The Aventador is powered by an all-new 6.5 L (6,498 cc; 396.5 cu in) naturally aspirated V12 internally known as the L539. This V12, specifically for the LP 700-4, makes 690 hp (515 KW) at 8,250 rpm and 509 ft·lb (690 N·m) at 5,500 rpm. It also uses multi-point fuel injection.

As with the Murciélago, the Aventador is all-wheel-drive, but equipped with a seven-speed single-clutch automatic transmission.

Performance[edit | edit source]

The Aventador is capable of 0 - 60 mph (97 km/h) in 3 seconds, 0 - 100 mph (161 km/h) in 6.4 seconds, and a top speed in excess of 217 mph (350 km/h).[3]

Lamborghini Aventador LP 700-4 Forza Edition (2012)[edit | edit source]

Main article: Lamborghini Aventador LP 700-4 Forza Edition

The Aventador LP 700-4 Forza Edition is a special Forza Edition variant of the Aventador LP 700-4, made specifically for S2 Class or X Class drag racing.

Gameplay[edit | edit source]

Prior to the July 2018 update, the Aventador was not normally purchasable in Forza Motorsport 7 except through the Specialty Dealer.

Advantages[edit | edit source]

The Aventador LP 700-4 is capable of a strong launch and fast acceleration despite its extreme weight, as it can reach 100 mph (161 km/h) in up to 6.5 seconds. In addition, it has a very high top speed among its competitors, reaching a maximum of 236 mph (380 km/h) in Forza Horizon 3 and Forza Horizon 4.

In the Forza Horizon series, the Aventador LP 700-4 can be a powerful tool for drag racing, as it can complete a one-mile drag race in 22 seconds or less. This is even more strongly pronounced from Forza Horizon 3 onwards, where players can upgrade the Aventador LP 700-4's engine to a maximum of 1,515 hp (1,130 KW) and 1,102 ft·lb (1,494 N·m) with the Twin Turbo aspiration swap applied, enabling speeds of up to 273 mph (440 km/h) with properly tuned gearing.

Disadvantages[edit | edit source]

The Aventador LP 700-4 exhibits moderate understeer due to its extreme weight, which can prove to be a problem on handling-focused tracks, where it is slower than the Porsche 911 GT2 RS (991.2), Lamborghini Huracán LP 610-4, and Ferrari 812 Superfast.

Using the Aventador LP 700-4 for circuit racing is not exactly the best idea, although the car can be upgraded with weight reduction and other handling-focused upgrades to alleviate some of the understeer.

Official Turn 10 remarks[edit | edit source]

Just being in the presence of an Aventador is enough to make one feel regal. Driving this mad bull can be likened to finding Elvis and winning the lottery… on the same day; thrilling, fortuitous, and maybe a bit surreal. The Aventador exudes sensual power, drop dead beauty, and performance numbers that seem derived from NASA blueprints. This is a bareknuckle brawler of a supercar, brandishing 690 bhp [sic] and more than 500 foot/lbs. of torque. In short, the Aventador’s potential is limited less by its engineering than by the bravery of its driver.[4]

Trivia[edit | edit source]

Mistakes[edit | edit source]

  • The Lamborghini Aventador LP 700-4's in-game name is incorrectly displayed as Lamborghini Aventador LP700-4 (without a space between "LP" and "700-4").
    • This also applies to the Forza Horizon and Forza Horizon 2 leaderboard name for the car and the Forza Edition variant of the car.
  • The Aventador LP 700-4's V12 engine is constantly depicted as having 700 hp (522 kW), despite that the "700" in the car's name refers to the car's metric horsepower output, which would logically result in the car making 690 hp (515 kW) like it does in real life.
  • In every Forza game except Forza Motorsport 7, the Aventador LP 700-4 wrongly uses its dry weight rating as its in-game weight rating.
    • In Forza Motorsport 7, though, it correctly weighs 4,085 lb (1,853 kg).
  • In Forza Motorsport 7 and Forza Horizon 4, the Aventador LP 700-4's cluster gauges would not fully fit in the car's dashboard.
    • This has since been corrected in the latter game.
  • The Liberty Walk widebody kit upgrade preset for the Aventador LP 700-4 in Forza Motorsport 7 reduces the car to below its claimed dry weight despite the car weighing 4,085 lb (1,853 kg) as standard in the game.

Miscellaneous[edit | edit source]

  • The Liberty Walk widebody kit for the Aventador LP 700-4 was originally designed for the Lamborghini Aventador LP 720-4 50° Anniversario, which is not featured in any of the Forza titles.[5]
  • The Aventador LP 700-4's engine, known as the "6.5L V12", can be swapped into various cars in the Forza Horizon series except Forza Horizon 2.
