It's notable that Ferrari considers itself a racing team first and automaker second. Leaving no gaps in the realm of elite performance, the XX line was created to bridge between Formula One and production cars. The Evoluzione has only 30 more horsepower than the previous 599XX but is a full second faster on Ferrari’s exclusive Fiorano test track.
 – Official description[1]

The 2012 Ferrari 599XX Evoluzione (Ferrari 599XX E) (Italian, lit. Ferrari 599XX Evolution), also abbreviated as Ferrari 599XX Evo, is an upgraded variant of the Ferrari 599XX, complete with radically redesigned aerodynamics and exhaust package.[2]

Overview[edit | edit source]

Design details[edit | edit source]

The 599XX Evoluzione features improved chassis dynamics, as well as radically redesigned aerodynamic and exhaust packages, the former of which is integrated with the car's electronic control systems. The car runs on new Pirelli tires measuring 290/30R19 and 310/35R19 at the front and rear, respectively.[3]

The 599XX Evoluzione's aerodynamic package consists of an active rear wing which incorporates a new aerodynamic concept called the "opening gap". The rear wing includes two flaps, with Formula One-esque profiles, which rotate electronically to adjust the downforce between the front and rear axles in function of vehicle speed and the manoeuver being affected, resulting in improved handling.[4] It is actuated automatically based on specific elements integrated with the car's electronic control systems, all of which have been suitably recalibrated as a result. The "opening gap" system logic operates according to the car's steering angle, longitudinal and lateral accelerations, and current speed. In addition to the rear wing, a modified front splitter and a new rear diffuser with a larger surface area and redesigned fences and footplates are also present on the 599XX Evoluzione.[3]

The 599XX Evoluzione also features changes to the suspension[4] and a weight of 3,010 lb (1,365 kg),[5] making it at least 77 lb (35 kg) lighter than the 599XX. It has a weight rating of 2,888 lb (1,310 kg) in Forza Horizon.[6]

Engine[edit | edit source]

The 599XX Evoluzione's 5,999 cc naturally aspirated V12 is more powerful than the 599XX's F140 CF by 20 PS (20 hp; 15 kW) for a total of 750 PS (740 hp; 552 kW), still at 9,000 rpm, partly due to a new side exhaust outlet system. 700 N·m (516 ft·lb) of torque is also present in the engine.[3][5]

Performance[edit | edit source]

The 599XX Evoluzione is capable of 0 - 60 mph (97 km/h) in 2.8 seconds and 100 mph (161 km/h) in 5.5 seconds, along with a top speed of 331 km/h (206 mph) due to the shorter final drive gear ratio that improves acceleration.[3]

At 200 km/h (124 mph), the 599XX Evoluzione boasts 728 lb (330 kg) of downforce with open flaps and 970 lb (440 kg) with closed flaps.[3] As a result, it is one full second faster than the 599XX on Ferrari's Fiorano test track, with a lap time of 1 minute 15 seconds.[3]

Gameplay[edit | edit source]

Forza Horizon[edit | edit source]

The Ferrari 599XX Evoluzione is available only through the October Car Pack. It drives similarly to the 599XX that it is based on but it has a higher top speed, improved handling and braking, and quicker overall acceleration.

Forza Motorsport 7[edit | edit source]

The Ferrari 599XX Evoluzione was added in the February 2019 update and unlocked for everyone in the April 2019 update.[7] It is a dominant car in Hypercar races and performs exceptionally well in Class R.

The 599XX Evoluzione performs well in both Classes S2 and X and has strong handling, braking, and acceleration, but it is heavily biased towards top speed, even to the point of being the fastest car in all of the game in terms of top speed; with the correct tune, it reaches 520 km/h (323 mph), beating the Mosler MT900S's 483 km/h (300 mph), Jaguar D-Type's 480 km/h (298 mph), and Porsche 911 GT3 RS PreOrder Car's 478 km/h (297 mph). Without the "speed bump" trick, its top speed is reduced to 493 km/h (306 mph), which is still faster than the aforementioned cars. In comparison to previous games, the 599XX Evoluzione's top speed sees a drastically large increase when the player lowers the downforce on both the front and rear. Exploiting a downforce setup of 421 lb (191 kg) for the front and 340 lb (154 kg), the 599XX Evoluzione can reach a top speed around 432 km/h (268 mph) and still have superb grip and acceleration, enabling it to perform well on medium-length and speed-biased tracks. Its closest competitors are the Ferrari F40 Competizione, Koenigsegg CCGT, Apollo Intensa Emozione, Mosler MT900S, Porsche 911 GT3 RS PreOrder Car, and Maserati MC12 Versione Corsa.

The 599XX Evoluzione is also the fastest car on The Juggernaut, despite not having a Drag Tire Compound available. This is due to its ability to reach 304 mph (489 km/h) and still have decent handling, something that no other car can do on this route. Because of this, it effectively beats the Shelby Cooper Monaco King Cobra, McLaren F1 GT, and Mosler MT900S. On any other Drag Racing Scene route, it is still inferior to the Shelby Monaco KC and Rimac Concept Two, although it comes close to the Toyota Supra RZ.

Unlike the regular 599XX, the 599XX Evoluzione cannot have its carbon fiber roof painted in any other color.

Trivia[edit | edit source]

  • The 599XX Evoluzione is the first car to be able to legitimately exceed 500 km/h (311 mph) in the Forza series; however, it can only do this when upgraded.
  • In the Xbox One and Windows 10 series titles, the 599XX Evoluzione is known by its English name of Ferrari 599XX Evolution instead.

Mistakes[edit | edit source]

  • In Forza Horizon 4, the 599XX Evoluzione wrongly had an Epic rarity despite its base counterpart being a Legendary car when it was first released. This was corrected in Series 16 to make it have a Legendary rarity instead.
    • It also has an in-game value of 250,000 CR despite being rarer and more expensive than the base 599XX in real life, which has an in-game value of 1,000,000 CR. The 599XX Evo previously had a much more accurate value of 1,500,000 CR in Forza Horizon.
