The 2017 Ferrari 812 Superfast (Ferrari 812), also abbreviated as the Ferrari 812 SF, is a V12-engined grand tourer produced by Ferrari since 2017.
The 812 Superfast, the successor to the F12berlinetta and codenamed Type F152M, is billed by Ferrari as its fastest and most powerful series production model to date.[1][2] It sports an upsized 6.5 liter V12 engine producing 788 hp (800 PS; 588 kW) and 718 N·m (529 ft·lb), also making it the most powerful purely naturally aspirated (i.e. no hybrid powertrains) series production car in the world.
Overview[edit | edit source]
Design[edit | edit source]
The 812 Superfast has a design inspired by that of the F12berlinetta, albeit with updated styling cues like full LED headlights, bonnet air vents, quad circular tail lights (as with all cars after the Ferrari GTC4Lusso), and a body-colored rear diffuser. The two-box, high tail design of the car is intended to resemble that of the Ferrari 365 GTB/4 Daytona, a Pininfarina design, despite the 812 being designed at the Ferrari Styling Center.[1]
The 812 Superfast has a luxurious interior inspired by both the F12berlinetta and the LaFerrari, especially the shape and position of the air vents and the dashboard contours.
As part of the Ferrari's flagship model design, the 812 Superfast's center control stack continues to lack a central infotainment display featured in entry level models like the 2+2 grand tourer GTC4Lusso and V8-engined convertible Portofino, retaining only a small temperature display for the climate control system and splitting all vehicular status information displays among the driver's multifunction instrument cluster, as well as the passenger-side touchscreen stack display above the glove compartment area.
The 812 Superfast has 20-inch front and rear wheels slotted into Pirelli P Zero tires with codes of 275/35ZR20 at the front and 315/35ZR20 at the rear.[1] The 812 Superfast uses carbon ceramic Brembo Extreme Design disc brakes, which Ferrari claims have 5.8% better braking performance from 100 km/h (62 mph) in comparison to the F12berlinetta.[1] The LaFerrari's brakes are reused for the 812 Superfast, with a diameter of 398 mm (15.7 in) at the front and 360 mm (14.2 in) at the rear.
The 812 Superfast has a dry weight of 3,362 lb (1,525 kg)[1] and a claimed curb weight of 3,594 lb (1,630 kg),[1] although its actual curb weight is much higher at 3,845 lb (1,744 kg).[3] This makes it 103 lb (47 kg) lighter than the previous F12berlinetta.
Technical specifications[edit | edit source]
The 812 has an enlarged 6,496 cc (6.5 L; 396.4 in3) version of the Ferrari F140 V12 engine, larger by 234 cc (0.2 L; 14.3 in3) from the F12berlinetta's 6,262 cc (6.3 L; 382.1 in3) engine. Like with the F12berlinetta, the 812's V12, internally known as the F140 GA, is naturally aspirated but is more powerful, producing 800 PS (788 hp; 588 kW) at 8,500 rpm and 718 N·m (529 ft·lb) of torque at 7,000 rpm.[4][1] As of 2018, the F140 GA is the most powerful naturally aspirated production car engine ever made according to Ferrari.[1]
Despite that Ferrari has possessed powertrain technology expertise in forced induction (usually turbocharging) and hybrid disciplines, Ferrari has confirmed that the legendary front-engine, rear-wheel-drive, V12-engined berlinetta design will never incorporate any of these technologies due to heritage reasons.
The 812 uses a seven-speed dual-clutch F1 automated manual transmission based on the one in the Ferrari 458.[5] The gearing for it is shown below:
Final Drive | 1st | 2nd | 3rd | 4th | 5th | 6th | 7th |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
3.60 | 3.33 | 2.59 | 2.01 | 1.58 | 1.30 | 1.10 | 1.00 |
Performance[edit | edit source]
The 812 Superfast has a top speed exceeding 340 km/h (211 mph), along with 0 - 60 mph (0 - 97 km/h) in 2.9 seconds.[1] It is also the first Ferrari equipped with EPS (Electronic Power Steering), and it uses the Visual Short Wheelbase 2.0 rear-wheel-steering system originally from the F12tdf.
Ferrari has stated that the front-engine, rear wheel-drive V12-engined berlinetta vehicle platform, which is part of the Maranello car marque's long-running heritage, cannot be easily refined and has presented various developmental challenges. As such, a combination of complicated aerodynamics technology is used to complement the 812 Superfast's chassis control system, including a mixture of active and passive aerodynamics to improve drag coefficient values over the preceeding F12berlinetta. The 812's front end is designed to increase downforce and includes intakes for front brake cooling, as well as ducts to increase underbody air flow. The bonnet also features channels to move air through to the side of the car for additional downforce. The rear diffuser of the 812 Superfast features active flaps that can open up at high speeds to further reduce drag.
Under curb weight, the 812 Superfast has a power-to-weight ratio of 459 PS (452 hp; 337 kW) per tonne, or 4.87 lb (2.21 kg) per horsepower.
Gameplay[edit | edit source]
In Forza Horizon 4, the 812 Superfast is an exclusive car and one of the most difficult to find, having been offered through the #FORZATHON Shop only once in Series 1 Autumn (October 4, 2018 ~ October 11, 2018). Should an 812 Superfast be listed in the Auction House, it will most likely be bought out instantly.
As of Series 11, the 812 SF can be unlocked by completing the 'Story Superstar Star Card.
Advantages[edit | edit source]
The 812 Superfast's performance is based on that of the F12berlinetta, but is improved, with quicker acceleration and a higher top speed, as well as better handling and braking. However, its acceleration is noticeably unrealistically quick to the point where it can beat the McLaren 720S and even the LaFerrari, although the LaFerrari and 720S have higher top speeds in Forza Horizon 4.
Disadvantages[edit | edit source]
The 812 Superfast suffers from minor to moderate wheelspin under full throttle, thus disadvantaging its otherwise quick acceleration. In addition, in Forza Horizon 4, it erroneously has a lower top speed than its predecessors, the F12berlinetta and F12tdf, despite having more power than them and having a higher top speed than them in real life. Just like the F12berlinetta, the 812 Superfast's default gearing is so tight it restricts the car's top speed to 221 mph (356 km/h).
In Forza Motorsport 7, the 812 Superfast's performance potential is lowered under the Exotic GT division's homologation restrictions, although it gains better handling in return.
Verdict[edit | edit source]
In summary, the Ferrari 812 is mostly a collector's item, as it is not competitive in any class. This is rendered further by the fact that it is an extremely rare exclusive car in Forza Horizon 4. Players seeking to complete their Ferrari collection are highly encouraged to get this car regardless.

Trivia[edit | edit source]
- The 812 Superfast received 19 new manufacturer colors in Forza Horizon 4.
Mistakes[edit | edit source]
- The 812 Superfast's weight rating of 3,594 lb (1,630 kg) in the Forza games only matches with Ferrari's claimed curb weight instead of the car's actual real life curb weight.[3]
- In Forza Motorsport 7 and Forza Horizon 4, the Ferrari 812 Superfast has a much higher value than normal, at 1,400,000 CR, which doesn't match with the real life car's starting value of US$363,730.
- In Forza Horizon 4, the 812 Superfast was wrongly classified as a Common car.
- As of Series 7, the 812 Superfast's rarity is now correctly Legendary.
