The Porsche 911 GT2 RS (991.2) (leaderboard name: 911 GT2 RS '18[1][2]) is a rear-engined road legal track car designed to be the highest-performing road-going variant of the 991.2-facelifted 991 generation of the Porsche 911.

Unveiled during the Xbox briefing of the 2017 Electronic Entertainment Expo, alongside Forza Motorsport 7, the 991.2 GT2 RS is the most powerful and fastest Porsche 911 road model ever, famous for being the fastest rear-engined/rear-wheel-drive production car around the Nürburgring-Nordschleife circuit, with a lap time of 6 minutes 47.3 seconds.[3] A modified variant, named the Porsche 911 GT2 RS MR, holds the record for the fastest road legal car on the track, with 6 minutes 40.33 seconds.[4]

Overview[edit | edit source]

Design details[edit | edit source]

The 991.2 GT2 RS features a magnesium roof, front lid, carbon fiber front and rear wings and boot lid, lightweight polyurethane front and rear apron, polycarbonate rear and side windows, and a titanium exhaust system. Porsche claims a wet weight of 3,241 lb (1,470 kg), although the car is featured with a weight rating of 3,197 lb (1,450 kg) in the game.[1]

A Weissach Package option is available, reducing 66 lb (30 kg) of weight, thanks to the additional use of carbon fiber and titanium parts, including the roof, anti-roll bars, and the coupling rods on both axles made out of the material, along with the addition of magnesium wheels.[5]

The 991.2 GT2 RS comes with 9.5J × 20 ET50 front wheels housing 265/35R20 rims and 12.5J × 21 ET48 rear wheels housing 325/30R21 rims. The brakes are ventilated carbon ceramic discs with four-pison monobloc aluminum fixed calipers and measure 410 mm (16.1 in) in diameter on the front and 390 mm (15.4 in) in diameter on the rear.[6][7]

Technical specifications[edit | edit source]

The car is powered by a watercooled 3.8 L (3,800 cc; 231.9 cu in) twin-turbocharged MDH.NA flat-6 engine based on the MDB.CA from the Porsche 911 Turbo S (991.2), upgraded to make 700 PS (690 hp; 515 kW) at 7,000 rpm and 553 ft·lb (750 N·m) of torque between 2,200 and 4,500 rpm.[6][7] The engine features a bore and stroke of 102.0×77.5 mm (4.02×3.05 in) and a compression ratio of 9.0:1.[6][7]

Power is sent to the rear wheels via a seven-speed PDK.[6][7]

Performance[edit | edit source]

The 991.2 GT2 RS reaches a top speed of 340 km/h (211 mph),[6][7] which it matches in Forza Motorsport 7 and slightly exceeds in Forza Horizon 4. In real life, the car has a higher recorded top speed of 221 mph (356 km/h).[8]

It is capable of 0 - 60 mph (0 - 97 km/h) in 2.9 seconds and 0 - 100 mph (0 - 161 km/h) in 5.7 seconds.

Gameplay[edit | edit source]

Advantages[edit | edit source]

The 991.2 GT2 RS is capable of decent acceleration and launch without excessive wheelspin, as well as a decent top speed of 211 mph (340 km/h) in Forza Motorsport 7. This speed was increased to 220 mph (354 km/h) in Forza Horizon 4, making it more on par with the 991.2 GT3 RS.

Disadvantages[edit | edit source]

The 991.2 GT2 RS has less effective downforce generation than its GT3 RS counterpart, consequently resulting in inferior handling and braking. The 991.2 GT2 RS is also rather difficult to drive, as it exhibits both understeer and oversteer around corners.

Customization[edit | edit source]

The 991.2 GT2 RS features two advanced paint groups for the body:

  • Paint Group 1, which affects the body color of the car.
  • Paint Group 2, which affects the carbon fiber stripes on the roof of the car.

Trivia[edit | edit source]

  • The 991.2 GT2 RS's MDH.NA engine, named "3.8 F6TT" in-game, can be swapped onto various cars in Forza Horizon 4 and is the default engine of the Volkswagen Type 2 De Luxe Forza Edition. It replaces the previous 991.1 Turbo S's MDB.CA engine.
  • The 991.2 GT2 RS is the main cover car of Forza Motorsport 7.
  • In the internal game files, the 991.2 GT2 RS is named the Porsche Raymond (POR_Raymond_17); this was the car's name during development.[9]
  • In Forza Horizon 4, the 991.2 GT2 RS was originally given a Legendary rarity, which was later downgraded to Epic in Series 16.

Achievements[edit | edit source]

  • The Rennsport Driver achievement in Forza Motorsport 7 is unlocked by owning the 991.2 GT2 RS in that game.

Mistakes[edit | edit source]

  • The 991.2 GT2 RS's rear wing does not feature adjustable downforce.
