The Ferrari F50 GT, also known as the Ferrari F50 GT1, is a racing derivative of the Ferrari F50 road car, made for GT1 racing.

The F50 GT was intended to compete in the BPR Global GT Series's GT1 league to compete against other series rivals like the McLaren F1 GTR.[1]

Overview / History[edit | edit source]

Following the motorsport theme of the Ferrari F40 LM and Competizione, Ferrari developed the F50 GT, a prototype based on the F50 that was built to compete in GT1-class racing.

The F50 GT features a fixed hardtop roof, a large rear wing, a new front spoiler, and many other adjustments. Its 4,698 cc (4.7 L; 286.7 in3) naturally aspirated racing V12 was tuned to generate 750 PS (740 hp; 552 kW) at 10,500 rpm[1] and 390 ft·lb (529 N·m) of torque at 7,500 rpm.[2] With a curb weight of 2,002 lb (908 kg), the F50 GT boasts an extreme power-to-weight ratio of 826 PS (815 hp; 608 kW) per tonne or 2.71 lb (1.23 kg) per horsepower.

Performance figures for the F50 GT include:

  • 0 - 60 mph (0 - 97 km/h): 2.9 seconds[1]
  • 0 - 100 mph (0 - 161 km/h): 6.7 seconds (5.1 seconds in Forza Motorsport 7)
  • Top speed: 233 mph (376 km/h)[2]

A test held in 1996 proved that the F50 GT was quicker than even the 333 SP, but this went unnoticed due to Ferrari canceling the F50 GT project over its disgust with the FIA allowing homologation special cars like the Porsche 911 GT1 in the series, as well as lack of funding. Ferrari instead focused on Formula One after the BPR Global GT Series concluded. The company sold off the three complete chassis out of the six planned chassis that were built–the test car 001, 002 and 003. Chassis 002 and 003 had bodies fitted before being sold. The remaining three tubs were reportedly destroyed.[2][3]

Gameplay[edit | edit source]

The Ferrari F50 GT is usually depicted as one of the fastest non-race cars in the Forza series, with extreme overall performance.

In Forza Horizon 4, the F50 GT's F130B engine, known as the "Racing V12", can be swapped into various cars in the game. It is usually found in place of the Lamborghini Aventador LP 700-4's L539 engine (known as the "6.5L V12"). The F130B is a handling-focused engine swap; swapping it into any car usually brings improvements to that car's handling. It is the default engine swap of the Maserati MC12 Forza Edition and Lamborghini Reventón Forza Edition.

Advantages[edit | edit source]

The F50 GT is capable of superb handling and braking that can shame even the Ferrari FXX K, Aston Martin Vulcan, and McLaren P1 GTR. Even for a handling-focused car, the F50 GT also boasts great top speed and decent acceleration. Upgrading the F50 GT makes it even faster to the point of being able to compete with the "kings" of X Class like the Lamborghini Centenario LP 770-4 and Koenigsegg One:1.

In Forza Motorsport 7, the F50 GT got an upgrade to its acceleration allowing it to reach 100 mph (161 km/h) in 5.1 seconds, making it capable of outrunning even the fastest hypercars in a drag race.

Disadvantages[edit | edit source]

Except for Forza Motorsport 7, the F50 GT is rather slow to 100 mph (161 km/h), doing that in 6.7 seconds. In addition, its top speed is somewhat low, at only 226 mph (364 km/h), slower than the car's real life claimed top speed, although it can still hold its own against cars with higher top speeds on speed-focused tracks and routes. The F50 GT is also prone to oversteer, but not enough to the point where it is uncontrollable.

In Forza Horizon 4, the F50 GT's competitiveness in X Class is neither the best nor the worst. Despite this, it is heavily inferior to the Maserati MC12 FE, Mosler MT900S, and Porsche 911 GT3 RS PreOrder Car. In S2 Class, the F40 Competizione is a better choice.

Trivia[edit | edit source]

Mistakes[edit | edit source]

  • The F50 GT has its power output displayed as 750 hp (559 kW), despite that 750 is the car's real life power output in metric horsepower (PS). Logically, it should be 740 hp (552 kW).
  • In addition, its torque output is wrong, at 383 ft·lb (520 N·m).
  • Also, the displacement of its engine is 4,700 cc instead of 4,698 cc.
