The new Acura NSX may be a hybrid, but it’s a hybrid supercar. A mid-engine, all-wheel-drive, twin-turbo, hybrid slice of pure performance. With around 600 hp from its combined 3.5-liter V6 and three electric motors driving all four wheels, what you have is a balanced and capable car that can compete with other supercars nearly ten times its price. There are nine gears to work your way through as you pass 60 mph in just over three seconds and torque-vectoring to smooth you through the curves. All the while you can still look back fondly on the original NSX that made the 2017 model possible in the first place.[1]

The Acura NSX (NC1) (Acura NSX '17), marketed as the Honda NSX (NC1) outside of North America and China, is a mid-engined hybrid supercar developed and manufactured by Honda in the United States since 2015. It appears in every installment of the Forza series since the Forza Horizon 3 Alpinestars Car Pack.[1]

The NC1 NSX is part of the second generation of the NSX, which replaces the NA1/NA2 first generation NSX that was produced between 1990 and 2005.

Overview[edit | edit source]

Technical specifications[edit | edit source]

The NC1 NSX is a significant mechanical departure from the NA1/NA2 NSX as it does not have a naturally aspirated V6 engine. Instead, it uses a 3,493 cc (3.5 L; 213.2 in3) twin-turbocharged JNC1 V6 engine that produces up to 507 PS (500 hp; 373 kW) between 6,500 and 7,500 rpm and 550 N·m (406 ft·lb) of torque between 2,000 and 6,000 rpm. It works in tandem with a triple electric motor Sport Hybrid SH-AWD system paired with a nine-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, resulting in a peak total output of 573 hp (581 PS; 427 kW) and 845 N·m (623 ft·lb) of torque.[2][3]

The NC1 NSX has a 42% / 58% weight distribution and a curb weight of at least 3,803 lb (1,725 kg) and at most 3,868 lb (1,754 kg).[3] This yields a power-to-weight ratio of 332 hp (337 PS; 248 kW) per tonne. Structurally, the body utilizes a space frame design, which is made from aluminium, ultra-high strength steel, and other rigid and lightweight materials, some of which are the world's first applications. The NC1 NSX has a length of 4,470 mm (176 in), width of 1,940 mm (76.4 in), ride height of 1,215 mm (47.8 in), 2,630 mm (103.5 in) wheelbase, 1,655 mm (65.2 in) front track, and 1,615 mm (63.6 in) rear track.

Performance[edit | edit source]

The NC1 NSX is capable of accelerating from 0 - 60 mph (0 - 97 km/h) in 2.9 seconds along with a top speed of 307 km/h (191 mph).[2][3] The NC1 NSX's Sport Hybrid SH-AWD also incorporates torque vectoring through the front axle and the rear differential for tightly controlled drifting sequences.[3]

Variants[edit | edit source]

Acura NSX Forza Edition (2017)[edit | edit source]

Main article: Acura NSX Forza Edition

The Acura NSX Forza Edition is a special Forza Edition variant of the NC1 NSX in Forza Motorsport 7, customized with HRE P101 rims and a custom widebody kit similar to the Liberty Walk LB-WORKS NSX.

Gameplay[edit | edit source]

As a hybrid supercar, the NC1 NSX's performance paramounts are its acceleration, launch, and grip around corners. These traits enable it to defeat the 2017 Nissan GT-R, its closest rival, in both drag racing and circuit racing.

Conversions[edit | edit source]

Trivia[edit | edit source]

  • The NC1 NSX's JNC1 hybrid engine can be swapped onto the Honda NSX-R GT in Forza Horizon 4.
  • The NC1 NSX is currently the only NSX that is badged as an Acura and is still in the Forza franchise.

Mistakes[edit | edit source]

  • The Forza Motorsport 7 rendition of the NC1 NSX wrongly has its power output displayed as 577 hp (430 kW). This error is also seen on its Forza Edition variant.
