The “718” moniker added to the fourth generation Cayman harkens to the 1957-1962 mid-engine Porsche racer that made its mark in motorsport history. This GT4 Clubsport is a true track-only competitor, so the rebirth of the hallowed development number is a good fit. This time around the simplicity of the original model gives way to the benefits of technology to deliver fast and capable results. For perfect balance, the 3.8-liter naturally aspirated flat-six is mounted amidships, facing backwards (when compared to a 911 engine) with the transmission in the rear. Weight savings is partially realized through a sustainable natural-fiber weave in the doors and aero. From nose to tail this is a single-seat, race-ready track car (complete with escape hatch!) from the winningest marque in racing history. If that doesn’t sum up what this car is capable of, there is only one other thing that will: driving it.
 – Official description[1]

The Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 Clubsport is a mid-engined GT4 race car based on the Porsche 718 Cayman GT4, part of the 982-codenamed fourth generation of the Porsche Boxster/Cayman. It was added to Forza Motorsport 7 as a free DLC car on August 6, 2019.[1]

The 718 Cayman GT4 Clubsport was unveiled on January 3, 2019, in two variants: Competition and Trackday, with the first customer cars being delivered to customer teams ahead of the 2019 Roar Before the Rolex 24 Hours at Daytona International Speedway.[2]

Overview[edit | edit source]

The 718 GT4 CS uses a 3,800 cc (3.8 L; 231.9 in3) naturally aspirated flat-6 engine producing 420 hp (425 PS; 313 kW) at 7,500 rpm and 425 N·m (313 ft·lb) of torque at 6,600 rpm.[2] With a curb weight of 2,910 lb (1,320 kg), the 718 GT4 CS has a power-to-weight ratio of 318 hp (322 PS; 237 kW) per tonne. Both 718 GT4 CS feature a welded-in rollcage, six-point harness and race bucket seats, a selection of body parts made of natural-fiber composites, the Porsche 911 GT3 Cup (991)'s front suspension, racing brakes, lightweight forged wheels, and racing slicks. The 718 GT4 CS features improved aerodynamics from the previous 981C Cayman GT4 CS, including a swan neck mount rear wing. The Competition variant features 3-way adjustable shock absorbers, a 115-liter fuel cell, brake balance adjustment, a lightweight battery, a fire extinguishing system, a quick release steering wheel from the 911 GT3 R (991), and a three-piston air jack system, while the Trackday variant features fixed shock absorbers, a 80-liter fuel cell, and a handheld fire extinguisher instead.[2]

The 718 GT4 CS has the following gear ratios:

  • Final Drive: 3.62
  • 1st: 3.91
  • 2nd: 2.29
  • 3rd: 1.65
  • 4th: 1.30
  • 5th: 1.08
  • 6th: 0.88

Variants[edit | edit source]

  • 2019 #4 Porsche Motorsport 718 Cayman GT4 Clubsport (#4 Cayman GT4 CS): The official GT4 race car that was unveiled at the car's reveal date, the #4 Cayman GT4 CS comes with a carbon black body color with additional faded yellow painting, especially around the rear of the car. The yellow and black paints are done in a way to resemble tire marks and scratches, with the former even covering up part of the #4 markings on each side. The #4 Cayman GT4 CS is featured in Forza Motorsport 7.

Gameplay[edit | edit source]

The 718 Cayman GT4 CS is featured in the Forza GT division, with its performance rated in mid-Class S at stock. Even at stock levels, the Cayman GT4 CS already features great handling, albeit inferior to the KTM X-Bow GT4. When homologated, the Cayman GT4 CS can perform well against many other homologated Forza GT race cars.

As with many other Forza GT cars, the Cayman GT4 CS has no conversions available and doesn't perform too well in the top speed department.

Trivia[edit | edit source]

  • The 718 Cayman GT4 Clubsport is the last car added to Forza Motorsport 7.
    • Coincidentally, both the first and last cars added to the game are Porsches, the former being the Porsche 911 GT2 RS (991.2) (also the cover car of Forza Motorsport 7) and the latter being the 718 Cayman GT4 Clubsport.
