The 2014 Mercedes-Benz G 63 AMG 6x6 (M-B G 63 6x6) is a six-wheeled sports utility truck manufactured by Mercedes-Benz from 2013 to 2015. Notable for being the first six-wheeled vehicle in the Forza series, the G 63 AMG 6x6 appears in Forza Horizon 4 from Series 11 onwards, as the final unlock of The Top Gear Horizon Special.[1]

A derivative of the Mercedes Gelänwagen, which was originally developed for the Australian Army in 2007, the G 63 AMG 6x6 was prominently featured in Top Gear Series 21 Episode 4.[2] Only 100 units of the 6x6 were produced.[3]

Overview[edit | edit source]

Design[edit | edit source]

The G 63 AMG 6x6, being the largest production vehicle by Mercedes-Benz at the time of its introduction, has an extreme weight rating of 9,050 lb (4,105 kg), making it up to three times heavier than many other Mercedes models.[4] Its design takes on a pickup truck version of the G-Class body, but with 6x6 portal axles (1 front axle + 2x rear axles) and a luxurious interior.[5]

The G 63 AMG 6x6 is in length, in width and 2,210 mm (87 in) in height, having ground clearance of 460 mm (18.1 in) and fording depth at 1,000 mm (39.4 in). It has arch axles, almost similar to those fitted on Unimog vehicles, such as the Mercedes-Benz Unimog U5023, which is also featured in Forza Horizon 4. The vehicle is installed with 18-inch beadlock wheels wrapped with gummy 37-inch tires and a 4,196 mm (165.2 in) wheelbase from the front axle to the rearmost axle.

Engine / drivetrain[edit | edit source]

The G 63 AMG uses the M157 DE 55 AL 5,461 cc (5.5 L; 333.3 in3) twin-turbocharged V8 shared with the G 63 AMG, with 536 hp (543 PS; 400 kW) and 760 N·m (560 ft·lb) of torque.[5][4]

The G 63 AMG 6x6 uses a seven-speed 7G-Tronic dual-clutch automatic transmission driving all wheels; due to being a six-wheeled vehicle, it is still all-wheel-drive, but is now six-wheel-drive. Its transfer case can alter between a 0.87:1 high-range ratio for on-road driving and 2.16:1 low-range ratio for off-road conditions to all six wheels in a nominal 30:40:30 split. The G 63 6x6 features five electronic differential locks, which can deliver 100% lockup of all six wheels, operated by three switches on the dashboard.[6][7]

Gameplay[edit | edit source]

  • The G 63 6x6 is unlocked by reaching Level 7 in the Horizon Story The Top Gear Horizon Special. This is done by getting all 21 stars in the Horizon Story.
  • The G 63 6x6, just like the Koenigsegg Regera and Rimac Concept_Two, does not have drivetrain swaps of any type. However, unlike the Regera and Concept_Two, which use unique hybrid or electric powertrains and transmissions, the G 63 6x6 is a six-wheeled vehicle.
  • The G 63 6x6 has a unique Car Mastery perk that unlocks 6 Horizon Wheelspins. It is in the topmost row, on the third column.
