The 2018 McLaren 600LT Coupé (McLaren 600LT) is a high-performance variant of the McLaren 570S supercar. The fourth McLaren production car to receive the longtail treatment, following the F1 GT and 675LT Coupé and Spider, the 600LT is the fastest Sports Series model.[1]

Overview[edit | edit source]

Design details[edit | edit source]

The McLaren 600LT, inspired by the preceeding 675LT Coupé and Spider and F1 GT Longtail, is longer than the 570S by 73.7 mm (2.9 in). There are also new and enhanced aerodynamic design elements on the 600LT, including a lower and stiffer suspension, increased front track with an extended front splitter and rear diffuser, larger carbon fiber side intakes, and a fixed carbon fiber rear wing for additional downforce.

Built with carbon fiber bodywork, including more carbon fiber in the roof along with centrails and front fenders, the 600LT's modified carbon fiber monocoque (MonoCell II) reduces weight by 212 lb (96 kg) over the 570S. McLaren also claimed that 23% of the parts in the 600LT are new compared to the 570S.[2][1] The 600LT uses the 720S's lightweight braking system and suspension, while the interior features carbon fiber racing seats derived from the P1 but can be upgraded with the Senna's super-lightweight carbon fiber racing seats. McLaren Special Operations (MSO) further offers a carbon fiber roof and front fender louvers as customization options.[1]

Once the 600LT has been outfitted with every weight-saving option, it gains a dry weight of 2,749 lb (1,247 kg) and a curb weight of 2,989 lb (1,356 kg).[3]

The 600LT in the Forza games is outfitted with the following options:

  • 10-Spoke Ultra-Lightweight Forged rims in Gloss Black with carbon ceramic brakes with McLaren Orange calipers that have a machined McLaren logo imprinted on each of them
  • MSO Clubsport Pack + Carbon Fiber Upgrades 1 and 2 + MSO Carbon Fiber Upgrade 3
  • MSO Defined Gloss Finish Visual Carbon Fibre

Engine[edit | edit source]

The McLaren 600LT's engine.

The 600LT's engine, still the 3,799 cc (3.8 L; 231.8 in3) M838TE, now produces 600 PS (591 hp; 441 kW) (hence the "600" in the car's name) and 620 N·m (457 ft·lb) of torque, an increase of 30 PS (30 hp; 22 kW) and 20 N·m (15 ft·lb) over the 570S. The 600LT's M838TE engine is supplemented by a lightweight titanium exhaust system that is based on that of the Senna's but is even shorter and more extreme.[1][3]

Performance[edit | edit source]

The 600LT rides on track-focused Pirelli P Zero Trofeo R tires (225/35R19 front, 285/35R20 rear) and features quicker steering and significantly firmer engine mounts than the 570S. It reaches 100 km/h (62 mph) in 2.9 seconds, 200 km/h (124 mph) in 8.2 seconds, and a top speed in excess of 328 km/h (204 mph).[3]

Gameplay[edit | edit source]

Forza Horizon 4[edit | edit source]

The McLaren 600LT Coupé was added to Forza Horizon 4 as part of Series 14, available as the Horizon Summer Season 50% completion bonus from September 26, 2019 07:30:00 PDT to October 3, 2019 07:29:59 PDT. Due to an oversight, when viewing the Series 14 Horizon Summer Season in the Festival Playlist menu, the 600LT is placed on the right (where the 80% completion reward should be) instead of being on the left (where the 50% completion bonus should be, but the 80% completion reward, the Honda NSX-R (NA2), lies here instead), although this is only a visual error and does not affect the 600LT and NA2 NSX-R being the 50% and 80% completion bonuses, respectively.

The 600LT performs similarly to the 570S it is based on, but with improved handling and a slightly higher stock top speed of 335 km/h (208 mph). It is less competitive in Class S1 than the 570S due to the latter's lower starting Performance Index of S1 846 as opposed to the 600LT's S1 890. However, it is somewhat decent in Drag Racing due to its ability to use the McLaren F1's 6.1 L V12 as an engine swap.

Trivia[edit | edit source]

  • The McLaren 600LT is the first explicitly named LT model from McLaren to be featured in the Forza series.
    • The 600LT appearing in Forza Horizon 4 marks the car's first playable appearance in a console racing game, as despite having been announced for Need for Speed: Heat earlier, the 600LT was made playable in Forza Horizon 4 earlier by about two months (Need for Speed: Heat releases on November 8, 2019).
  • Unlike the 570S, the 600LT's rear engine can be exposed in Forzavista.

Mistakes[edit | edit source]

  • The camera view in the 600LT's interior sits abnormally high in Forzavista.
  • The 600LT has an in-game value of 250,000 CR, which is wrong given the car's real life MSRP of US$245,000. Logically, the 600LT should have a credit value of 256,000 CR.
