The Bugatti Chiron is a limited production, mid-engined hypercar produced by Bugatti since 2016 for the 2018 model year.
Named after Monegasque driver Louis Chiron, the Bugatti Chiron is the successor to the Bugatti Veyron.[1][2]
Overview[edit | edit source]
The Chiron is based on the Bugatti Vision Gran Turismo concept car and is limited to 500 units, each with a price tag of at least US$2.5 million.[2]
Design / Chassis[edit | edit source]
The Chiron's overall shape is reminiscent of the Bugatti Veyron Super Sport, but features a more futuristic design language, including a set of thin and long taillights and two pairs of quad headlights.
The Chiron is estimated to weigh at least 4,398 lb (1,995 kg), up at least 346 lb (157 kg) from the Veyron Super Sport.
Like the Veyron, the Chiron uses a carbon fiber body structure, independent suspension, and a Haldex all-wheel-drive system.[3][4] The carbon fiber body boasts a stifness of 50,000 N·m per degree.[5]
Engine / Drivetrain[edit | edit source]
The Chiron's main carryover from the Veyron is the 7,993 cc (8 L; 487.8 in3) quad-turbocharged W16 engine, but heavily updated. It now makes 1,500 PS (1,479 hp; 1,103 kW) at 6,700 rpm and 1,600 N·m (1,180 ft·lb) of torque between 2,000 rpm and 6,000 rpm.[6][2]
As with the Veyron, the Chiron uses a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.[7]
Performance[edit | edit source]
The Bugatti Chiron is capable of 0 - 60 mph (0 - 97 km/h) in 2.4 seconds, 0 - 100 mph (0 - 161 km/h) in 4.9 seconds, 0 - 124 mph (0 - 200 km/h) in 6.5 seconds, and 0 - 186 mph (0 - 300 km/h) in 13.6 seconds. In a world record test run, the Chiron performed 0 - 249 - 0 mph (0 - 400 - 0 km/h) in 42 (41.96) seconds, with 0 - 249 mph (0 - 400 km/h) being done in 32.6 seconds and the reverse being done 9.4 seconds later.[8] However, this record was later broken by the Koenigsegg Agera RS, which not only did the same in 36.44 seconds and later 33.29, but is also currently the fastest production car in the world.[9]
The Chiron has an electronically restricted top speed of 261 mph (420 km/h), or 233-236 mph (375-380 km/h) without the specific key, for safety reasons, mainly due to the tires and the fact that no tire currently manufactured would be able to handle the stress at the top speed the Chiron is capable of achieving.[7] However, Bugatti confirmed that they were not interested in a top speed run anytime soon.[10] In the Forza series, the Chiron has a higher top speed of 269 mph (433 km/h).
Gameplay[edit | edit source]
Advantages[edit | edit source]
The Chiron is a top speed-focused car, capable of extreme speeds and outstanding acceleration. It can reach 100 mph (161 km/h) in under 5 seconds, a feat accomplished by few other cars in the series. Its top speed of 269 mph (433 km/h) puts over 97% of cars in the series to shame, even the Koenigsegg One:1. It also features improved handling from the Veyron.
Disadvantages[edit | edit source]
The Chiron's bias towards top speed means it suffers around corners. While not as heavy as the Veyron 16.4, the Chiron still has moderate to strong understeer, although its braking is acceptably decent for a hypercar weighing almost 4,500 lb (2,041 kg). Despite this, the Chiron works best in high speed routes with minimal corners, and even then, it is highly inferior to the Agera RS and Mosler MT900S. In drag racing, while a good car for drag racing, it is far from the best, as it is inferior to the Lamborghini Aventador LP 700-4 Forza Edition and McLaren F1 GT.
In Forza Motorsport 7, the Chiron is one of the least desirable cars to use in the Hypercar division, as its performance potential is largely restricted due to homologation; even under such, it still suffers from understeer.
Customization[edit | edit source]
The Chiron has three advanced paint groups.
Trivia[edit | edit source]
Mistakes[edit | edit source]
- The Chiron's interior dashboard does not display the current gear number.
- Although the Chiron has 2 hidden exhaust tips in real life, they don't backfire in any of the games.
