The Porsche 356 SL Gmünd Coupe (Porsche 356 SL) is a rear-engined classic race car famous for being Porsche's first race-developed sports car. It is featured in Forza Horizon 4 from Series 13 onwards.[1]

Overview[edit | edit source]

The 356 SL was the car that earned Porsche their first motorsport victory, in the 1951 24 Hours of Le Mans.[2]

Engine[edit | edit source]

The 356 SL's 1.1 liter carbureted flat-4 engine.

The 356 SL's engine was a Volkswagen-derived 1,066 cc (1.1 L; 65.1 in3) naturally aspirated flat-4 equipped with twin Solex 32 PBI carburetors.[3] It was rated at 46 hp (34 kW) and 60 ft·lb (81 N·m) of torque.[4][5]

Performance[edit | edit source]

The 356 SL was capable of a top speed of 160 km/h (99 mph).[4] With a weight of 1,411 lb (640 kg), it had a power-to-weight ratio of 72 hp (54 kW).

Racing history[edit | edit source]

Being Porsche's first successful race car, the 356 SL was driven in a pair in the 1951 24 Hours of Le Mans, one being marked #47 and another being marked #46. This pair would finish in 20th overall and first in the 1100 cc class in the event.[4]

Variants[edit | edit source]

  • #46 356 SL Gmünd Coupe: Driven by Auguste Veuillet and Edmond Mouche, this 356 SL is featured in Forza Horizon 4.[5]

Gameplay[edit | edit source]

Forza Horizon 4[edit | edit source]

The #46 356 SL is an exclusive car, available by completing the "RR Spotlight" Seasonal Championship in the Series 13 Horizon Autumn Season.

Despite being a 1950s car, it is capable of reaching Class S2, particularly S2 989 at the highest. This requires an AWD swap, along with the Porsche 911 GT3 RS (991.1)'s MA1.97 4.0 L F6 engine swap paired with a Twin Turbo aspiration swap, to be achieved.
