No, it's not Ferrari's first diesel as the name might seem to imply, tdf stands for Tour De France. Not for the bicycle race that this front-engine V12 supercar has nothing to do with, but for the long ago motor race of the same name. More importantly, what the tdf means is more power and more sharp-edged performance than the standard F12, that and knowing you have those three letters on the end of the badge. You want some cool tech to help real in all that power? Well meet VSW or Virtual Short Wheelbase. That is a fancy way of saying rear-wheel steering. With a tail-happy tendency the VSW is there to help real it in a bit although not enough to ruin the fun of it. What is the true appeal of a front-engine V12 Ferrari? One single rev to the 8,900 rpm redline will answer that.
 – Official description[1]

The 2015 Ferrari F12tdf is a limited edition, high-performance version of the F12berlinetta grand tourer. Named after the Tour de France automobile race held between 1899 and 1986 which was regularly won by the Ferrari 250 between 1956 and 1964, the F12tdf is among one of Ferrari's fastest front-engined production vehicles ever made, with a lap time of 1 minute 21 seconds on Ferrari's Fiorano test track, behind the LaFerrari's 1 minute 19.7 seconds.[2]

Overview[edit | edit source]

Design details[edit | edit source]

The Ferrari F12tdf features a more aerodynamic-inspired design, with a more aggressive front splitter and thick carbon fiber louvers with air intakes on the front sides, as well as triple louvers at the rear, just behind the doors. It also features two vents on the hood positioned close to the car's headlights. The F12tdf was designed by the Ferrari Styling Centre.[3]

Dimensions[edit | edit source]

The F12tdf is 243 lb (110 kg) lighter than the F12berlinetta, weighing 3,119.5 lb (1,415 kg) dry and 3,351 lb (1,520 kg) at the curb. It has a length of 183.3 in (4,655.8 mm) and a width of 77.2 in (1,960.9 mm). It stands 50.1 in (127.3 cm) tall and has a wheelbase of 107.1 in (272 cm). The F12tdf's front and rear tracks are 65.9 in (167.4 cm) and 63.7 in (161.8 cm), respectively. As with the F12berlinetta it is based on, the F12tdf has a weight distribution of 46% front and 54% rear.[3]

Engine and drivetrain[edit | edit source]

The F12tdf's 6,262 cc naturally aspirated V12, now internally named the F140 FG, is retained from the F12berlinetta, but with updates to raise the peak power output to 780 PS (769 hp; 574 kW) at 8,500 rpm and the torque output to 705 N·m (520 ft·lb) at 6,750 rpm.[2] 80% of the F12tdf's torque is available from 2,500 rpm, while the car's engine redlines at 8,900 rpm.[4][3]

The F12tdf retains the F12berlinetta's seven-speed F1-style DCT transmission.[3]

Performance[edit | edit source]

The F12tdf is capable of accelerating to 60 mph (97 km/h) in 2.9 seconds, 100 mph (161 km/h) in 6 seconds, and 124 mph (200 km/h) in 7.9 seconds, as well as a top speed in excess of 340 km/h (211 mph).[3][5]

The F12tdf's improved aerodynamics give it improved handling and grip over the F12berlinetta, also yielding the F12tdf a lap time of 1 m 21 s at Ferrari's Fiorano test track, 2 seconds faster than the F12berlinetta.[2]

Gameplay[edit | edit source]

Forza Horizon 3[edit | edit source]

The Ferrari F12tdf can only be obtained through the VIP Pack. Performance-wise, the F12tdf has a top speed of 383 km/h (238 mph), making it the fastest Super GT car in the game (if upgrades are not to be accounted for). It also has the best handling and overall performance among Super GT vehicles at stock. With upgrades included, the F12tdf is capable of reaching Class X, albeit inferior to various vehicles there. The F12tdf, being an FR vehicle, has to cope with minor amounts of wheelspin when on full throttle, although it has decent grip around corners.

Conversions[edit | edit source]

  • Drivetrain Swap
    • AWD
  • Aspiration Swap
    • Twin Turbo

Forza Motorsport 7[edit | edit source]

The F12tdf is placed in the Exotic GT division, where it is held back by its low top speed and low competitiveness in relation to other Class S vehicles like the Lotus Elise GT1 and Lamborghini Centenario LP 770-4. In addition, unlike in the Forza Horizon series, the F12tdf's top speed is lower, as it is now only at 340 km/h (211 mph).

Conversions[edit | edit source]

  • Drivetrain Swap
    • AWD
  • Aspiration Swap
    • Twin Turbo

Forza Horizon 4[edit | edit source]

The F12tdf can now go much faster than in Forza Horizon 3, as the effects of its engine upgrades have been amplified, allowing it to make 1,495 hp (1,115 kW) with the Twin Turbo aspiration swap. It has a starting PI class of S2 901 and can go to Class S1 with certain upgrades. Like in Forza Horizon 3, the F12tdf can reach Class X.

Despite its upgrades being better than in Forza Horizon 3, the Forza Horizon 4 F12tdf is still not a competitive car for racing as it lacks handling and grip necessary to keep up with the kings of Class S2 and Class X (e.g. Maserati MC12 Versione Corsa, Apollo Intensa Emozione).

Conversions[edit | edit source]

  • Drivetrain Swap
    • AWD
  • Aspiration Swap
    • Twin Turbo

Changes from Forza Horizon 3 to Forza Horizon 4[edit | edit source]

  • Engine power gains have been amplified, allowing it to make 1,495 hp (1,115 kW) with the Twin Turbo aspiration swap.
  • Is classified as a Hypercar.
  • All standard manufacturer colors except for Blu Tour de France feature red stripes at the bottom of the car.

Trivia[edit | edit source]

Mistakes[edit | edit source]

  • The F12tdf's rear trunk is unopenable in Forzavista.
  • The F12tdf's manufacturer colors in Forza Horizon 4 wrongly feature red stripes at the bottom of the car.
    • In addition, the F12tdf's Blu Tour de France manufacturer color is wrongly saturated; instead of being a deep blue, it appears as a lighter shade of pale blue.
  • The F12tdf is wrongly featured as a Hypercar in Forza Horizon 4. Logically, it should be a Track Toy due to being a more track-focused variant of the F12berlinetta; as a reference, the Ferrari 488 Pista, a Track Toy, is a track-focused special version of the Ferrari 488 GTB, which is classified as a Modern Supercar.
